Rt. Rev. Patrick Chisanga OFMConv.

Bishop of Mansa, Zambia

Born on 16 May 1971, in Mufulira (Copperbelt, Zambia), Rt. Rev. Patrick Chilekwa Chisanga is a professed member of Order of Friars Minor Conventual.

He attended his upper Secondary Education while at Ndola Minor Seminary (1988-1990), professed his temporary vows in 1992, studied philosophy at St. Bonaventure College, Franciscan Formation Centre, in Makeni, Lusaka from 1992 to 1995. Then he proceeded to study theology at Tangaza College (Nairobi, Kenya) from 1995 to 1999.

He made his solemn vows in 1998 and was ordained priest on 27 June 1999 by bp. Dennis H. De Jong at Ndola.

Bishop Patrick Chisanga

Bishop Chisanga has a B.A. in Theology from CUEA University (Nairobi, Kenya, and from Urbaniana Pontifical University, Rome: 1999) and a Licentiate degree in Clinical Psychology from Gregoriana Pontifical University, Rome (2006).

For his pastoral experience he worked as Parish Priest of Sts. Michael and Noah Parish, Chamboli, Kitwe (1999-2001);

He was Guardian at St. Francis friary, Makeni, Director of Formation for the students of Theology, Lecturer of Psychology at St. Bonaventure College and Assistant Parish Priest of Regina Pacis Parish, Chawama, Lusaka (2006-2008).

He was Minister Provincial of the Conventual Franciscan Friars for Zambia and Malawi from 2008 to 2012.

Later he was Director of Formation for the students of Philosophy and Lecturer of Psychology at St. Bonaventure College, Lusaka (2012-2013).

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Mansa on 30 November 2013 and was ordained Bishop on 1 February, 2014, by Archbishop Ignatius Chama.
