Rt. Rev. George Muthaka OFMCap.
Rt. Rev. George Muthaka was born on 28 December 1974 at Ruiru, Kiambu County, Kenya.
He joined the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin and professed his temporary vows in 1996.
He studied philosophy at St. Bonaventure College, Franciscan Formation Centre, in Lusaka from 1996 to 1999. Then he proceeded to study theology at Tangaza College (Nairobi, Kenya) from 1999 to 2003, where he obtained the B.A. in Theology from CUEA and from the Pontifical Urbaniana University. He made his solemn vows on 31 August 2002 and was ordained priest on 28 June 2003 by bp. David Kamau Ng’ang’a.
His pastoral assignments include:
- Assistant Parish Priest of Msabaha Parish in the diocese of Malindi and Co-ordinator of the diocesan office of Justice and Peace
- Director of the diocesan Caritas (2003-2007)
- Guardian of the Capuchin friary of St. Bridget in Nairobi and Director of its pastoral complex (2007-2009)
- Vicar Minister Provincial for two consecutive terms (2009-2015)
- From 2015 to 2017 he obtained the Master Degree in Church Management at the Villanova University (USA) and the Master Degree in Psychology at the Divine Mercy University (USA).
Since 2017 in the Diocese of Garissa he has been Vicar General, Administrator of the Cathedral Parish,, Diocesan Financial Administrator, Director of the diocesan Caritas, Chairman of the diocesan Commission for the protection of Minors.
He was appointed bishop of Garissa on 17 February 2022 and was ordained on 7 May 2022 by Archbishop Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megen, Apostolic Nuntio to Kenya.
