Graduation Requirements

1. BA in Philosophy

The university awards the Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy to those students who satisfy the requirements of the established by the University in accordance with the Memorandum of understanding with the PUA and the Statutes of PUA as set out below:

1.1 To pass all the examinations of compulsory philosophical and allied subjects with an average of 80%. The candidate should have 80% at the end of four semesters to be admitted to the BA program and may be disqualified if he/she falls below that average at the end of six semesters. The averages shall be worked out as semester averages.

1.2 To submit a satisfactory scientific research paper of between 40 to 50 pages (about 14 000 words) at the end of the fifth semester. The paper should be done following the University typographical norms and methodology. A pass of 80% is also required.

1.3 To pass a comprehensive oral examination of forty-five minutes. A list of themes in form of questions for this final examination is prepared by the University in accordance to the regulations of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University Antonianum. The themes shall be given to the students at least two months before the examination. A pass of 80% is also required. In case of a fail, a candidate can be given another chance after two weeks or a day set out at the discretion of the Academic Committee.

1.4 To have a final average of at least 80% of the philosophical courses, dissertation papers and the oral comprehensive exam. It shall be worked out as 50% of the philosophical courses plus 25% or the dissertation paper and 25% of the oral comprehensive examination. 9.1.5 To have a total of at least 92 ECTSs at the end of six semesters.

2. Diploma in Philosophy

The University grants a Diploma in Philosophy to those students who satisfy the following requirements after two years or four semesters of study according to the University Academic Calender:

2.1 To pass all the examinations of core philosophical courses, electives and allied courses.

2.2 To complete all the credits in the core philosophical subjects in the two-year program. 30

2.3 To submit a satisfactory scientific research paper of between 20 and 25 pages at the end of the fourth semester. The paper should be done following the University typographical norms and methodology.

 3. Diploma in Philosophy and Religious Studies

The University grants a Diploma in Philosophy and Religious Studies to those students who satisfy the following requirements after three years or six semesters of study according to the University Academic Calender:

3.1 To pass all the examinations of core philosophical courses, electives, religious studies and allied courses. (Franciscans are also required to pass all the six Franciscan Studies Courses)

3.2 To complete all the credits in the core philosophical subjects in the two-year program.

3.3 To submit a satisfactory scientific research paper of between 20 and 25 pages at the end of the fourth semester. The paper should be done following the University typographical norms and methodology.

4. Certificate in Franciscan Religious Studies

The University grants a Certificate in Franciscan Religious Studies to those students who satisfy the following requirements after one year or two semesters of study according to the University Academic Calender:

4.1 To pass all the examinations of core Franciscan Studies and allied religious and philosophical courses.

4.2 To complete all the credits in the core subjects in the one-year program.

4.3 To submit a satisfactory scientific research paper of between 20 and 25 pages at the end one semester. The paper should be done following the University typographical norms and methodology.
